Watch out piracy gamers, they are coming for you!

Piracy is becoming more and more frequent these days especially in the gaming industry. Well as expected Microsoft aren't happy and our friend Major Nelson has posted up a blog about banning Xbox LIVE on consoles that are suspected to have committed such a crime. The statement goes on to read;

As you may have read online, we’ve been actively banning consoles from Xbox LIVE that have been modified to play pirated games. Our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community remains a top priority. All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them. This would also be a good time to remind you that the warranty on an Xbox 360 console is not transferrable and if you purchase a used console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.

I for one detest gaming piracy and hope all these people gaming illegally get what's coming for them; the banhammer!! You have been warned!

I agree wholeheartly, the amount of players out there with modded consoles and such is unbelievable and it ruins online gaming especially.

The bad thing is the little comment thrown in the end concerning used consoles. I could see piraters trading in consoles when banned and the next person who purchases it will be in for a big surprise.

Yeah but if u have any sense you would take the console back and if that happens more and more the retailers will do more testing into a console and eventually not buy one to sell it. The human brain is a wonderful thing some people have it dome like you don't lol@5

The morons are the ones who think piracy costs MS anything. Just as stores take the costs of theft into account when setting prices, so do the game publishers.

It's the honest folks who buy their games who also pay for the games pirates steal.

"Suspected"??? Err, aren't we innocent until *proven* guilty? But they'll ban you even if simply 'suspected' - and if they get it wrong (as they have on several occasions) best of luck in getting this reversed. From what I've seen, it will prove a bit of a headache for *their* mess up. Good ol' M$...

It's really hard to say because both sides of the story has cons and pros, nut I mostly agree that the consel should be band if your playing pirated games.
