Sony are boasting and with good reason, following the announcement that PS3 sales during the Christmas period were up by more than 130 per cent.
“We’ve had a solid holiday season and have delivered consistent growth throughout this year,” sales vice president Ian Jackson said to CNET.
Sales of the PS3 have been slow since it launched, but he heralded 2008 as a ‘pivotal year for the PlayStation’ and did make a claim of having ‘the best software line-up in the industry’, though this is still up for debate.
“Early internal data points to an increase of more than 130 per cent of PS3 hardware sales for the holiday season – since Black Friday (that day following Thanksgiving) – and we’re also seeing a growth of nearly 40 per cent in total PS3 hardware sales for the calendar year,” Jackson continued. “We remain confident this momentum will continue into the new year.”
Will 2009 see the fortunes of the PS3 improve? Sales are increasing albeit slowly and we’ll be keeping our beady eyes on the figures during the year. Did you get a PS3 for Christmas? Tell us below.
