Xbox Updates PC App and Cloud Gaming for Faster, Streamlined Experience

Microsoft has announced significant updates to the Xbox experience across PC, web, and cloud gaming platforms aimed at improving speed and usability. The refreshed Xbox PC app is now available to Xbox Insiders, delivering faster launch times, streamlined navigation, and improved social and search features. Meanwhile, the updated Xbox cloud gaming interface is rolling out to more players on the web, with similar enhancements beginning to appear on supported TVs and VR headsets.

The Xbox PC app update introduces several performance improvements designed to make everyday tasks quicker. According to Microsoft, the app launches up to 60% faster, with major sections such as Home, Store, and Game Pass loading up to 50% faster. In-app windows also open up to 65% faster. Alongside speed gains, the app features a redesigned library with simpler navigation and new filters to help players organise and browse their games collection more efficiently.

Social interactions receive a boost with friends and party features integrated into the main navigation, allowing users to more easily see what their friends are playing, start chats, or join parties. The search functionality has been expanded to cover games, installed titles, add-ons, and people from a single search bar, improving discovery across the Xbox ecosystem. Visual updates include refreshed game cards, home and settings screens, with new animations to enhance readability and usability.

Refreshed Xbox Cloud Gaming Web Experience

Following an earlier preview revealed to Xbox Insiders, the updated cloud gaming experience on the web is now expanding to a broader audience. The new interface consolidates cloud games into a single Library tab, allowing players to browse, sort, and filter titles by recently played, genre, input options, and other criteria regardless of ownership or Game Pass availability.

Desktop mode on the web interface has been optimised for larger screens, utilising the additional space to display more games and details during browsing. Visual settings now include light and dark modes along with five high-contrast options to accommodate varied visual preferences and accessibility needs.

Cloud Gaming Updates Extend to TV and VR Platforms

Microsoft has also begun deploying the refreshed look and navigation to Xbox cloud gaming apps on compatible smart TVs and virtual reality headsets. Recognising the differences in screen sizes and input methods, these updates aim to provide a more consistent and familiar user experience across devices. The improvements focus on helping players find games quickly and access features with ease regardless of platform.

These changes form part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to unify and streamline the Xbox ecosystem across devices. The company invites continued player feedback through the Xbox Insider Program and associated community channels to guide further development. Xbox Insiders can access the updated PC app now, while wider availability of the web and cloud gaming enhancements is scheduled to roll out gradually.
